Anna’s Story – Suicide

Every week I will be discussing a different topic on grief and loss, suicide, cancer, and spirituality.

I am no stranger to grief, loss, pain, sadness, and despair. Everyone’s grief and how they cope is their own and unique. Since September is National Suicide Prevention month and having lost my sister to suicide at the age of 14, I would like to talk about it.

Sexually abused by our stepfather she remained silent and did not speak out. After her first failed attempt at suicide, she returned to the same overpass and ended her life.

I only wish she could have known that with any adversity there is a choice and you can overcome it. With all suicide, there are warning signs, and if you feel there is cause for concern please seek a health professional or contact the Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) to receive available resources.

September is also my sister’s birthday anniversary, and I wish she was here. I love her dearly and miss her every day.
